EXCESS WATER DUMPED BY L. SUPERIOR BOARD

The Board of Control has declined to consider reducing excess water releases from Long Lac-Ogoki diversions this year as it did in1952, 1973, 1985.  The larger dam of two forming Long Lac – Ogoki diversions (shown in TNN News) is 450 feet longer than Hoover Dam. Also, the Board keeps Lake Superior within a 4-foot range by dumping water into Lake Michigan-Huron leading to a 6½-foot range. The Board is authorized  reduce L. Superior discharges to ease Lake Michigan-Huron shore erosion by lowering its water level.
