FISH EGGS SUFFOCATE IN LAKE MICHIGAN REEFS

Many Great Lakes reefs have been smothered by invasive Quagga & Zebra mussels, leaving (fish) eggs exposed and vulnerable to predators.  Near river mouths and tributaries, scientists say these reefs are being buried by sand and silt, the result of higher precipitation, soil erosion, runoff and climate change.  EDITOR’S NOTE: MDEQ restored a reef near Elk Rapids’ Harbor – Cisco fishing is great.  Over 15 more miles of reefs were flattened by polar vortex ice of 2013-15 destroying fish habitat and storm barriers.
