PIPING PLOVERS SEEN AGAIN ON LOCAL BEACH. Great Lakes’ shores were once home to nearly 800pairs of Piping Plovers, down to 13 pairs in 1990 by nest disturbance, predation, habitat decline. Federal Endangered Species listing increased population to 70 nesting pairs. Team effort fostered this unique and cheerful bird seen on the East Bay shore near local Mitchell Creek.
